"Tox, knock it off!" Toxtricity was a few yards ahead, jumping around the meadow. He kept opening his mouth to try and munch on a combee, but the bugs were evasive. "Tox, they sting!" She couldn't believe he still acted like he had as a Toxel. Perhaps being a shadow pokemon had stunted his growth. She still wasn't sure why he evolved after so much time as a baby pokemon...

Suddenly, a dozen combee rose up from the meadow, humming threateningly. Had they been napping in the flowers?

"Aw, geez!" Toxtricity charged up defensively, but he was quite outnumbered. Robin tossed out Sinistea, but the ghost type just chimed with worry. Combee were hive pokemon, so this aggressive behavior spelled trouble.

At the far end of the meadow, a knoll just so happened to conveniently obscure Benji’s view. Nor did he hear any of the incoming commotion, busy as he was fawning over his furret– the fuzzy noodle prancing happily among the flowers.[break][break]

“We’re getting so many good glamor shots, dude,” he muttered, phone snapping away with candids of Milo, his cottoncandy pink body bright among soft, yellow flowers. Further and further, the furret scampered into the field and Benji followed–the pair of them both happily oblivious.[break][break]

At least until they breached the knoll and the sound of a low buzzing swelled louder.[break][break]

“Huh?” he looked up from his screen with a frown, and quickly noticed the toxitricity and its trainer. Where’d they come from? Before he could ask, he registered a sharp, stinging pain against his leg. “Ow, hey!” His face turned down in a pathetic, wet poochyena sort of frown. “Did you just shock me? What’d I do?”[break][break]

Benji, oblivious, failed to notice the combee hive.

Oh, geez.

"Hey! Get outta the flowers!" Toxtricity snapped at a too-close combee, feeling defensive against the buzzing swarm. Robin sent out Sinistea who generated aromatic mist in the area to improve defensive stats. The sweet-smelling mist disrupted the swarm, confusing the bees who relied on their sense of smell for flowers and even to determine the location of their hive.

"Mister, let's get you out. The 'bees are stingin'!" She didn't want to send out Snorlax to grab and manhandle him, especially because the normal-type would smash a bunch of flowers, but she didn't want him to bump into the confused combees and get stung further.

Why were we shouting?[break][break]
Panic climbed naturally, the more he got poked and the more he tried to figure out what was going on. Normally, he was a calmer sorta person, but something about being thrown into the moment made him feed in to the frantic edge. His bespectacled eyes swiveled to the toxatricity again, but it was distracted and definitely not the one jabbing him like he’d initially thought.[break][break]
“The bees?” He questioned, just before he felt another jab—this time on his arm. “Yeowch!” Benji swatted again, and that time he spied the angry combee buzzing away. “What’d you do to make them mad?” he squawked. Or maybe he made them mad? Either way, rather than try to shield his face, he tried to bend and scoop up his furret, who was definitely now clueless in the warpath, with happily twitching ears as he sniffed at a daisy.

His question immediately put her on the defensive. "ME?" She inquired loudly, despite her Toxtricity being the one to rile up the Combees. She didn't see him reaching for his furret and thought he was wasting more time instead of leaving the meadow. "Dude! Get outta there!"

Against her better judgement, she stepped into the flowers and did her best to avoid kicking any low bees. She got to the guy and wrapped a hand in his shirt. "Out! Now! They're gonna summon a Vespiqueen if we-" She tugged on him to drag him away forcibly, but at the same time, her eyes landed on the Vespiqueen now standing a few feet away.

Ah. She needed to fight her way out of this one. "Tox, boom burst!" She released Benji and mimed covering her ears before she did it herself.

Tox brought the noise and emitted an ear-shattering burst of sound throughout the area. Sinistea, meanwhile, continued to generate her mist as she was completely unimpacted by the normal-type assault.

“YEAH, YOU!” He blurted back at her. There hadn’t been a litany of royally pissed combee on his side of the meadow, after all. “Sorry, sorry!” Benji quickly amended, despite his panic. “I’m nice, I swear I am!”[break][break]
He just had to get to Milo. He’d take more stings if he had to. The berry pink furret blended with the wild flowers. “Huh?” he only partially heard the young woman going on shouting, and his fingers closed around the furret’s wiggly body just as he felt a sharp backward yank at his shirt collar.[break][break]
Benji jerked back with a yelp. “Ah–hey!”[breka][break]
The buzzing intensified, and had he been paying attention, he would’ve noticed that in his fumbling, he’d hit ‘record’ on his phone camera.[break][break]
Feeling his shirt released, he took a step forward and stumbled, but he got the memo as he caught himself. Milo looped around his head, muffling the sound of the ]BOOMBURST as his own hands cuffed over the ferret’s much more sensitive ears.

The bugs dispersed in the face of Tox's unreasonable volume. Robin was mostly desensitized to it, but she realized too late that Benji hadn't covered his own ears. "Ah - stupid!" She scolded, but Tox had finished his damaging soundwaves by the time she clapped her hands around his ears instead. She clicked her tongue disapprovingly.

"How are you feeling?" She asked, then realized he might not be able to hear her. She moved to stand in front of him, so he could read her lips if needed. "Do you feel any vertigo?" She reached into the pouch at her hip and rummaged for medicine while Tox came up and licked at the Furret, curious of its taste since it was colored just like his favorite berry.

Robin didn't break focus on scrounging up medicine while she pushed Tox back with her leg, a habitual "Knock it off," coming out of her mouth. She pulled the small bottle out and presented it to him with an apologetic smile. "Sorry for the party rockin'. Tox gets real loud, but it's great crowd control."

Apparently the wrap of his furret’s body wasn’t much of a sound muffler, but Ben had little regret in choosing to cover Milo’s ears instead. The pink noodle was a bit up there in age, so no doubt it’d hurt him more.[break][break]
Belatedly, another pair of hands covered his ears, and the found muted somewhat.[break][break]
Ben blinked at the girl, confused as static rang loud in his ears over the sound of her talking. “Uhhhh…” He rubbed at his ears, trying to dispel the sound. “I THINK I’M OKAY.” The volume of his voice, however, had unfortunately shot up. “WHAT WAS WITH ALL THE BEES?”[break][break]
The furret chirped at the attention give, regardless of the girl who pushed her toxitricity away. His tail swished in greeting.[break][break]
“THANKS!” Benji gladly took the offered meds, and downed them in a dry swallow. “WHAT WAS THAT? PARTY ROCKIN?” He waved a hand as the noise began to recede and he became more aware of his shouting. “NO, I DON’T MI–oops. Hah. Sorry. It’s fine, though.” The combee stings would be a pain later, though.

Oof. Dude's hearing might be jacked for a minute. But he had a temporary immunity to Loudred, so that was cool.

"Um," she said sheepishly. "Tox stirred them up. He likes to frolic. He just steps on the sleeping Combee and then he thinks they want to play." Or maybe, she thought, it was a vengeful side of him as a shadow pokemon. Maybe Josh Devlin was right about her pokemon. Maybe Toxtricity had an innate craving for chaos and violence that she could never tame. Was it with rose-colored glasses that she looked at her pokemon?

The furret pulled her attention back to the present. "Sorry about all this. We should get your ears checked out. There's a ramen place in town that's super killer, if you'll let me treat you as an 'I'm sorry' for the bees?"

He blinked a few times, absently pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. “Makes sense,” he accepted without much complaint. He shrugged, unbothered. “Sounds like a toxitricity being a toxitricity.” His attention swiveled to the pokemon, considering reaching out and attempting to scratch its chin.[break][break]
Ben waved a hand, “Naw, it’s fine. Don’t worry about it.” She was right about the ears, though– “I can check ‘em out myself later, I’m trained for it.” Or he could just have a co-worker give him a quick once over. Either way. Large hands rubbed at them, thumping against the side of his head a couple times as though he were draining out water that had plugged them up.[break][break]
Clearly he had improved enough to speak for his stomach, though, because he quickly perked at the mention of food. “Oh? I’ll never turn down good ramen! Sure,” he grinned brightly. “Benji Sawyer. Ben, Benny, not Benjamin.” He reached over and snatched up the furret, holding him aloft as his long body wobbled. “And this is Milo!”
